Where it started — 2012, first paid SEO work.
An Egyptian organisation, and the first paid SEO engagement of the career — taken while still an engineering student at Ain Shams.
The brief
Learn the discipline by doing it for someone who was paying for the outcome.
The situation
- The first paid SEO engagement of the career, taken in 2012 while still an engineering student at Ain Shams.
- No mentor, no established local playbook, and an Egyptian market where search marketing barely existed as a service.
- Being paid for an outcome you have never delivered before is a different problem from studying the subject.
- Everything had to be verified from first principles, because most of the advice available at the time was wrong.
What I did
Learned by being accountable for the output
Taking payment for a result forces a different standard of rigour than studying does. That was the point, and it set the pattern for everything after.
Verified everything from first principles
The engineering training applied directly: test the claim, measure the result, discard what does not hold — in a field then full of confident bad advice.
Built the technical instinct early
Starting on structure and indexation rather than content is why the later platform-scale work at AlWaseet and Zoutons was possible at all.
Delivered while studying full time
The engagement ran alongside a mechanical engineering degree, which established the working discipline every parallel engagement since has depended on.
What moved
Where it started — and the reason every engagement since begins with the technical layer.
